The Greensboro Area Health Education Center (GAHEC) is located at 200 E. Northwood Street in Suite 100 on the campus of The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. We are affiliated with the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers Program of The School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Our mission has remained constant since our establishment in 1974:

To meet the state's health and health workforce needs by providing educational programs and services that bridge academic institutions and communities to improve the health of the people of North Carolina with a focus on underserved populations.

Our vision is to lead the transformation of healthcare education and services in North Carolina.

AHEC educational programs and information services are targeted toward:

  • Improving the distribution and retention of health care providers, with a special emphasis on primary care and prevention.
  • Improving the diversity and cultural competence of the health care workforce in all health disciplines.
  • Enhancing the quality of care and improving healthcare outcomes.
  • Addressing the health care needs of underserved communities and populations
