After several decades in our Northwood Street office, we have moved! Our new space is just a few blocks away, at 300 E. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, NC 27401 (Google Maps, Apple Maps). We’re busy unpacking boxes and getting settled in while we continue to serve the needs of our eight-county region.

With so many years of memories in the Northwood building, the move “feels surreal,” says Tina Latham, Assistant Director. “It’s sad to say goodbye to the old building, but exciting to see what a new place will bring.”

Our mailing address (1200 North Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401), main phone number (336.832.8025), and email address (AHEC.CustomerService@conehealth.com) all remain the same.

We welcomed a new Continuing Professional Development team member in July: Amber Wilkins is our new Allied & Public Health Program Coordinator, responsible for proposing and creating public health continuing education programs and overseeing various continuing ed programs already in the works for allied health professionals.

Amber started her career in quality assurance at the Florida Board of Nursing and, soon after, earned her MPH in Policy and Administration. She’s since worked in policy compliance assessing licensure applications, completing Medicaid long-term care assessments and releases, and most recently, providing feedback and approval for continuing ed programs.

In her new role with Greensboro AHEC, she’s most excited about “engaging with community partners, researching evidence-based programs to implement within the community, and providing quality programs that can positively impact health within our communities.”

Outside of her work with Greensboro AHEC, Amber enjoys reading, estates sales and auctions, jazz and blues concerts in the park, finding new leaves on her plants, and discovering new delicious restaurants. Please join us in welcoming Amber to the team!

Student Services Coordinator Tonya Baldwin wanted to give students an emotional boost each day during their clinical experiences. “I understand the importance of positive thinking and self-motivation, especially during the pandemic,” says Baldwin. “I wanted to create a space for students that would encourage them to follow through with any goals they had set for their day.” She chose artwork with cheerful and encouraging sayings to create “affirmation walls” in the common areas of each unit that students will see every day as they come and go.

Campbell University student Kathryn Henrikson has appreciated the addition: “The affirmation wall brightens the space and has great reminders for starting the day on a positive note. Thank you, Greensboro AHEC, for everything you do for your students!”

Greensboro AHEC provides housing for health professions students during their community clinical experiences across an eight-county region. For more information about Student Housing, please contact Tonya Baldwin at tonya.baldwin@conehealth.com.
