Clinical Students and Preceptors

Pharmacy Students

Our program is for students interested in focusing their careers in the clinical practice setting, whether inpatient or outpatient. Preceptors with active clinical practices include 14 individuals with CPPs and many more with BCPS. Students should come expecting a demanding and challenging AHEC experience.

GAHEC pharmacist faculty includes Peter Gal, PharmD;, Peter Koval, PharmD; and Dawn Pettus, PharmD; all of whom have active clinical practices.

Unique Features

  • Most training is within the concept of a healthcare team approach
  • Advancement of pharmaceutical care supported through provision of pharmacy certificate programs in dyslipidemia, diabetes and asthma

  • Many ambulatory care preceptors practice in physician office practices and are role models for practices in which clinical services are appreciated by physician colleagues and billed for by pharmacist providers
  • One AHEC faculty has a research laboratory where HPLC assays can be performed, and a clinical practice which allows extensive application of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic drug dosing and monitoring
