Student Housing Information

The Office of Regional Primary Care Education (ORPCE) provides housing for health professions students during their community clinical experiences.

Obtaining Greensboro AHEC Housing

·         All requests for AHEC student housing must be made through the statewide MyAHEC website at www.myahec.net. The site will instruct you to create an online account and you can select the AHEC region(s) where you need housing. This process requires that you apply for your own housing; a school/course coordinator will not be able to apply for housing on your behalf.

·         Fax or mail a signed Greensboro AHEC Housing Agreement to our office with a $50.00 security deposit

Housing is on a first come, first served basis.

As housing is limited, please submit these forms as soon as possible after your rotation assignment has been scheduled and is definite. All forms and payment must be received in the Greensboro AHEC office before housing can be confirmed and keys issued. You will receive a confirmation of housing by email approximately 2-3 weeks before your rotation begins, provided that all forms and deposits have been received.

Security Deposit

A $50.00 security deposit is required for all housing applicants. You may either send in a check or pay by credit card.
By Check: Payable to Greensboro AHEC
Send to ATTN: ORPCE 1200 N. Elm Street Greensboro, NC 27401. Please include your rotation dates on the memo line of the check.
By Credit Card: Call Tonya Crawford-Baldwin at (336) 832-8566

Your security deposit will be forfeited if:

·         Housing is not cancelled within 72 hours of your rotation beginning date and you are considered as a no-show

·         Keys are not properly returned at the end of rotation

·         All requirements listed in GAHEC Housing Agreement are not adhered to

Please note: We will not process the security deposit if agreement is adhered to. Checks will be destroyed and credit card payments will not be processed.

Housing Sites

We have housing sites available in several of our communities throughout the Greensboro AHEC region. A description of the housing accommodations and directions, what the proprietor expects, what is provided, and/or what you need to bring with you is listed under each housing community below:

Asheboro Housing

Some students going on rotation to White Oak Family Physicians, Asheboro Family Physicians, Randolph Medical Associates, or Randolph Hospital, etc., need housing during their clinical. For this reason, the Greensboro ORPCE maintains two apartments in the Asheboro area, one for male students and one for female students. We have the capacity to house four students in each apartment. If you are assigned to the Asheboro housing location, you are allowed to check-in on the first day of your rotation, weekend

Check-in is not an option. You can pick up your keys from: Benjamin James Properties, (336) 625-1200 address: 929-A Sunset Avenue in Asheboro, NC 27203 Email address: benjamesproperties@earthlink.net.

Documents describing each of the Asheboro apartments are available below. These documents can be opened in Microsoft Word or WordPad:

Greensboro

There are thirteen apartments on the Moses Cone campus to accommodate students on rotation in Greensboro, Burlington and High Point. These apartments fill quickly and stay full most of the time. All the apartments are identical in description. We highly recommend you apply for housing in the Greensboro area as soon as possible after scheduling your rotation through your school. After receiving your housing application, deposit and housing agreement, the Greensboro AHEC Housing Coordinator will determine housing availability and you will receive confirmation by e-mail approximately 2-3 weeks prior to rotation begin date. Actual apartment numbers will not be assigned until check in.

WI-FI: The wireless network in the AHEC apartments is a free service that allows you to attach your wireless-enabled computer to the internet. To use this service, you must have a computer with a standard 802.11b/g/ WIFI card or internal wifi card as provided in laptops. The AHEC office will not be responsible for providing technical support for your computer, devices, WIFI card or setup. Technical support must come from the manufacturer or issuing body.

Please note: Students assigned to Burlington will be housed in Greensboro. Occasionally, when housing is at full capacity in Reidsville and Eden, you will be assigned to Greensboro based on availability.

Greensboro Campus Apartments

Reidsville, Eden

There is an apartment in Reidsville, which students will be able to utilize while on rotations in Reidsville, Yanceyville or Eden. This apartment will only accommodate two male or two female students at any given time. In the event that the apartment is full, we also have a family home in Eden that will accommodate one student at a time.
