Disaster Resources Toolkit for Clinicians

  • WISER
    WISER is a system designed by the National Library of Medicine to assist first responders in hazardous material incidents. WISER provides a wide range of information on hazardous substances, including substance identification support, physical characteristics, human health information, and containment and suppression advice. Free.

  • Mobile REMM
    Mobile REMM is available for Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and Palm OS and offers a selection of the most important files from REMM. Radiation Event Medical Management is produced by the Department of Health and Human Services to provide information to health care providers, primarily physicians, in a variety of formats: on the web, on mobile devices, and through a downloadable version that can be used in situations with no internet connectivity. REMM aims to help users act in a radiation emergency even without formal radiation medicine training. Free.

  • Antibiotic Guide
    A service of Johns Hopkins Point of Care Information Technology. Includes antibiotic recommendations for a wide range of conditions, including those caused by a bioterrorist attack. Also includes a PDA download center; applications work with a variety of devices. Registration required.

  • Bioterrorism Decision Support Tools
    Decision support tools about how to treat smallpox, inhalation anthrax, and cutaneous anthrax, as well as for the detection and basic management of chemical agents of terrorism. Also included are numerous documents, such as the ACP guides to identifying bioterrorism and chemical terrorism. The decision support tools only work with Palm devices, but documents work with Palm and Pocket PC. Free.

  • Bioterrorism Fact Sheet PDA Downloads
     "Quick Reference Material" produced by St. Louis University's Institute for Biosecurity. The PDA portion of the reference material includes a series of clinical fact sheets about the diagnosis and treatment of exposure to various agents. Works with Palm devices. Free.

 Databases:

  • NCHAN Preparedness & Response
    Database maintained by the North Carolina Division of Public Health. Provides access to various websites and documents including NC government agencies, NC Bioterrorism resources and local public health agencies.

  • TOXNET
     A group of databases that provide information on various aspects of toxicology hazard identification. Can search databases individually or all at once.

  • Emergency Response Resources (NIOSH)
    The topic areas contain guidance to assist employers and responders to insure the goal of worker safety and health during responses.

  •  Public Health Preparedness Resource Guide for
    The Resource Guide for Public Health Preparedness is a gateway to freely available online resources related to public heath preparedness. Resources include expert guidelines, factsheets, websites, research reports, articles, and other tools aimed at the public health community. All resources are cataloged and may be searched by keyword or browsed by topic.

  • Disaster Preparation and Recovery
    Collection of resources on preparing for disasters. Includes checklists, financial considerations, specific types of disaster and recovery resources. Also in Spanish.
