AHEC Digital Library
Document Delivery

Electronic Access

The general public is welcome to visit the Moses Cone Health System/Greensboro AHEC Medical Library.  Some services are also available from the four NC Medical School Libraries for those unaffiliated with the university. 

1. AHEC Digital Library

Health care professionals in North Carolina are eligible for membership in the AHEC Digital Library. The AHEC Digital Library is a collection of electronic resources and services in the Health Sciences. The ADL is designed by NC AHEC librarians to be a gateway to the most useful and highest quality resources available today. The public is welcome to visit the AHEC Digital Library and login as a guest. For access to the full range of licensed resources, health care professionals must be a registered member. 2. Document Delivery

            Document Delivery involves the provision of copies of articles or of books or audiovisuals.

a.    Moses Cone Health System/GAHEC Library  
Photocopies from materials in the MCHS collection may be made in the Library ($.10/page) or requested on Interlibrary Loan through the local public library.

b.   Copies of articles not in the MCHS collection may be requested on interlibrary loan from other Libraries through your local public library or through the UNC-Chapel Hill Health Sciences Library’s REQUEST-A-COPY service.  Fees may apply.

c.    Loansome Doc  
Loansome Doc is a document delivery service provided by the National Library of Medicine and the four N. C. Medical School Libraries. It is designed to enable users to order the full text of documents found while online and searching in the National Library of Medicine's

You must first become a Registered User by establishing an Agreement with an "Ordering Library", such as UNC-CH, Wake Forest, Duke, or ECU. Registration information for each of these four institutions is below.  Fees do apply.

1)   UNC-CH  
Registration is required with UNC-CH. Please go to this
site for full information about this process.  

2)   Wake Forest University Medical School  
Wake Forest's Loansome Doc service for the public is limited. For information, see
fact sheet or call the Wake Forest University Medical School Library at (336) 716-4378.

3)   Duke  
Registration is required with Duke University's Medical Center Library. Please go to this
site for full information or call the Medical Center Library Service Desk at (919) 660-1179.

4)   ECU
Only affiliates of ECU are eligible for their Loansome Doc services. For information about the Loansome Doc Service, go to
this site. or contact ECU at (252) 744-2226.

3.  Access to Electronic Resources

Electronic Resources are online resources provided by the institution.

a.    Moses Cone Health System Medical Library  
All electronic resources available through the Libraries' computer workstations are available during the hours the Library is open.  Databases for literature searches are available on these computers.   Literature searches may be requested from the Librarians; fees may apply.

b.   AHEC Digital Library  
The AHEC Digital Library offers access to many online resources.  From the login page, choose the link, Visit the ADL as a Guest.  Membership in the ADL, available for the NC healthcare professional, is required for access to licensed resources.
