AHEC Digital Library.  Preceptors for the four North Carolina Medical Schools have access to many of their university’s resources through the AHEC Digital Library.  The AHEC Digital Library provides access to electronic resources such as databases, full-text journals, and full-text books.  Resources from each university vary.  Contact your University for further information about their policies. For questions please contact your GAHEC Outreach Librarian.

Document Delivery

Document Delivery involves the provision of copies of articles or of books or audiovisuals.  Each institution has its own policies as noted below.  All offer Loansome Doc document delivery services. 

1.   Loansome Doc 
Each institution offers Loansome Doc services.  For a full description of this service, please see the National Library of Medicine's
Loansome Doc Fact Sheet, or the GAHEC Fact sheet. You must first register with the Library with which you wish to work.  Fees apply for this service.

a.   MCHS/GAHEC Library:  Call for information:  (336) 832-7484.

b.   UNC-Chapel Hill:  Registration is required with UNC-CH. For information go to this site or call the Health Sciences Library, Interlibrary Loan Desk, at (929) 966-4998.

c.   Duke University:  The Loansome Doc service is provided by the Library for students, faculty, and staff affiliated with Duke University, Duke University Health System personnel, Duke University alumni, health care professionals not affiliated with an academic medical library, and the general public in the United States. If you need assistance in registering for Loansome Doc, or if you have other questions about document delivery from the Duke University Medical Center Library, please call our Library Service Desk at (919) 660-1100. 2.   Moses Cone Health System/GAHEC Library
Photocopies of materials in the MCHS/GAHEC Library may be requested from the Library.  Photocopies of materials not available in the Library may be requested through the Interlibrary Loan Service, directly from your affiliated university, or through the Loansome Doc service.

Borrowing of Audiovisuals and Spanish language materials may be requested from the Cone Library through Interlibrary Loan through the local Hospital's Library (or Library Contact) or through a local public library

3.   UNC-Chapel Hill  
The
REQUEST-A-COPY service from UNC-CH's Health Science Library is a fee-based service designed to supply photocopies of articles or of single chapters from books owned by the UNC-CH Health Sciences Library. Fees do apply.

4.   Wake Forest University

5.   Duke

Electronic Resources
Electronic Resources are online resources provided by the institution, generally only to affiliated users.

1.   AHEC Digital Library.  The AHEC Digital Library provides access to electronic resources such as databases, full-text journals, and full-text books; resources from each university vary.  Contact your University for further information about their policies.   For questions please contact your GAHEC Outreach Librarian.

2.   MCHS/GAHEC Medical Library  
Any resources available through the Library’s computer workstations are available for use during Library hours.  Literature searches may be run on these Library computers to any of the free Medlines on the Internet or through the Ovid interface.  Literature searches may also be requested from a Librarian; fees may apply.

3.   UNC-Chapel Hill  
UNC-Chapel Hill’s Health Sciences Library offers
access to a wide range of electronic resources for their preceptors through the AHEC Digital Library.  For assistance or call (919) 962-0800 or contact your GAHEC Outreach Librarian. 

4.   Duke University  
Access to the Duke University online resources is through the AHEC Digital Library.  For information about remote access to Duke University’s electronic resources, please see this

5.   Wake Forest University  
WF and NWAHEC affiliated preceptors have access to some resources through the AHEC Digital Library.  Additional resources are available through the WF School of Medicine Library; for further information, please call the Reference Desk at (336) 713-7100.

6.   ECU   
Preceptors of ECU students may access ECU electronic resources (databases and full-text resources) through the

Instruction and Workshops
Instruction and workshops are provided on site at Moses Cone Health System and online by several of the institutions.

1. Moses Cone Health System/GAHEC Library
Workshops provided by the MCHS Library are available for Medical students, Residents, Interns, and health professional students on rotation at MCHS

2. UNC-CH
The Health Sciences Library provides some online tutorials. Click
