About Greensboro

Greensboro, the Guilford County seat, is situated in the picturesque, rolling Piedmont section of North Carolina. Its population of 223,891 enjoys four distinct seasons and a long "Indian summer." The sun shines on Greensboro more than 225 days yearly and the temperature averages 68.4 degrees. –Greensboro and Guilford Colleges, North Carolina A&T University, Bennett College and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro are all located within the city limits.  Duke University in Durham, Wake Forest University (Bowman Gray) in Winston-Salem, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are within an hour's drive.

Numerous cultural and athletic events are presented at local colleges and universities and at the Greensboro Memorial Coliseum and Auditorium. Activities include lectures, programs and entertainment by nationally and internationally known figures of art, music, and drama. Major sporting events include the Wyndham Championship Golf Tournament, Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball, and the Florida Marlins' Farm Team (the Grasshoppers).

Recreational facilities are available throughout the city for swimming, tennis, and golf. Greensboro's central location also gives convenient access to the state's abundant natural playgrounds. To the west and north lie the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge, which offer many recreational activities, including skiing, camping, hiking, canoeing, rafting, and fishing. To the east and southeast one can easily reach the beautiful and varied seacoast of the Carolinas.

Dining and shopping to serve every neighborhood are spread across the 60-square mile city. Many beautiful residential areas are found throughout the city and can be easily reached from the Hospital.

Already one of the more culturally diverse cities of its size in the South, recent immigrations of Hispanic, East African, South-East Asian, and other peoples have made our community an increasingly interesting place in which to live.
