Areas of Curriculum
• Hospital Administration – Rural hospital with a critical access focus - The Hospital Administration portion will provide the resident with a higher level of understanding of the focus, expected outcomes, operational requirements and executive administration of care in a rural hospital environment. Residents will work directly with the CEO and key hospital leadership to develop this understanding.

Primary Care in a rural practice -
This experience will
provide the resident with first-hand experience
working in a community primary care practice. The
resident will spend time with not only the physician
and other providers, but with the office staff.
• Emergency Department Services - The Emergency Medicine portion will provide the resident with the cognitive knowledge, psychomotor skills and attitudes needed to provide care in an acute care setting in a rural Critical Access emergency department. Residents will be taught to recognize true medical emergencies, promptly initiate treatment and manage specific emergent/urgent medical conditions specific to special patient populations. • Hospitalist Services - Hospitalists provide a vital service for inpatient care in rural and urban settings. This experience will familiarize the resident with the particular needs of patients in rural areas and appropriate patient care measures to assure continuity by the hospitalist physician.
